440C: A Wear-Resistant Stainless Steel
Background
Central Wire Industries Series Stainless 440C is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel. It has high strength, moderate corrosion resistance, and good hardness and wear resistance.
440C is a machining and milling grade and is best used in high-abrasion environments, applications, and industries. It’s a preferred alloy for industries like Food and Drink, Medical, Construction, and Manufacturing.
Chemical Properties
After heat treatment, 440C's very high carbon content gives it the highest strength, hardness, and wear resistance of all the stainless alloys.

Physical Properties
440C is in the 440 stainless steel family. 440A and 440B are slightly softer, with less corrosion resistance. 440F requires higher machinability but has similar hardness and hardenability as 440C.
